The call for applications for the Merriman Award is still open (closing date is 15th February).  Just a reminder that this award allows the winner to attend UKSG in Brighton, UK and NASIG in Spokane, Washington, USA.  This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to attend two conferences, all expenses paid.  We are keen to remind people that this award is open to anyone working in a library or information service that manages online resources or supports users accessing them.  You do not have to have significant experience in librarianship, research support or scholarly communications to attend.  In fact, this is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate as part of your application what you would learn should you be successful.  If you have any questions, please get in touch.  We look forward to seeing your applications and remember - someone will win this fantastic opportunity! Could it be you?

Unique opportunity to win a fully funded trip to the USA!

Applications are invited for the joint NASIG/UKSG award to attend the premier conference for the scholarly information community on the other side of the Atlantic – the NASIG Annual Conference in Spokane, WA, 8-12 June 2020.

Each year NASIG and UKSG offer two members, one from NASIG and one from UKSG, the chance to attend each other's annual conference. The award covers the conference fee, return travel to the US and accommodation costs.

The UK award winner will be supported by the generous sponsorship of Taylor & Francis Group for the US trip and will in addition receive full financial support from UKSG to attend the UKSG conference.

Named in honour of John Merriman, in recognition of his work in founding both UKSG and NASIG, this prestigious award provides an invaluable opportunity for anyone keen to learn and share experiences from a different angle.

Katherine Stephan, Research Support Librarian at Liverpool John Moores University and last year’s winner, found the experience enjoyable and rewarding:

“It was a pleasure and a privilege to win the Merriman award.  As someone relatively new to research support, but with a strong commitment to scholarly communications and open research more generally, it was fantastic to experience both the UKSG and NASIG conferences and learn first-hand about developments, achievements and share with others at institutions from North America, Europe and beyond.  I was able to network, socialise and learn from so many people in a concentrated period of time-and it has led onto connections and collaborations, too!”

Full details on eligibility and how to apply can be found on the UKSG website:

The closing date for applications is 15 February 2020

UKSG, set up in 1978, has a mission to connect the information community and encourage the exchange of ideas on scholarly communication.  Established in 1985, NASIG is an independent organisation that promotes communication, information and continuing education about serials and the broader issues of scholarly communication.
