UCS (Union of concerned scientists) presenterar en rapport där de anklagar 
Bush-administrationen för att manipulera, förvanska och hemlighålla det 
arbete som vetenskapsmän gör vid amerikanska myndigheter och i 
vetenskapliga rådgivande expertgrupper.

Many scientists have spoken out about their frustration with an 
[Bush-]administration that has undermined the quality of the science that 
informs policy making by suppressing, distorting, or manipulating the work 
done by scientists at federal agencies and on scientific advisory panels.

In several recent cases at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), a 
branch of the Department of the Interior, Bush administration officials 
have demonstrated a serious disregard for scientific integrity by 
suppressing or distorting research by government scientists or contractors.

Sharon Smith, chair of the marine biology department at the Rosenstiel 
School of Marine and Atmospheric Science at the University of Miami, states 
that she was summarily rejected for a position on the U.S. Arctic Research 
Commission - a presidential appointment - after she gave a 
less-than-enthusiastic answer in response to a question from the White 
House personnel office about whether she supported President Bush.

Two of the most recently appointed members to the National Advisory Council 
for Human Genome Research, Richard Myers of Stanford University and George 
Weinstock of Baylor College of Medicine, report that they were each 
subjected to inappropriate questions about their political views by 
representatives of the White House during their confirmation process.
