The American Library Association (ALA) has established a brand new
section devoted to all manner of resource sharing activities. The new section is
known as STARS, Sharing and Transforming Access to Resources Section, and its
committees will sponsor projects, publications, and conference programs in the
areas of interlibrary loan, document delivery, remote circulation, access
services, cooperative reference, and cooperative collection development.
Membership in STARS is open to library staff, both U.S. and international, as
well as vendors of resource sharing products and services.

and click on "STARS". We are very interested in collaborating with our
international colleagues and hope that many of you will join ALA/RUSA/STARS
($105 US annually).
If you join STARS, you will be eligible to serve on
any of the following committees being formed this year: 1) Interlibrary Loan, 2)
International ILL, 3) Education and Training, 4) Legislation and Licensing, 5)
Codes, Guidelines, and Technical Standards, or 6) Vendor Relations. Each
committee will be working on a number of exciting projects, and you may
participate in the committee's work via email even if you are unable to attend
the ALA annual conferences. A committee volunteer form is available at http://www.ala.org/rusa - click on "Volunteer" and select the form for
Sharing and Transforming Access to Resources Section. NOTE: YOU MUST JOIN ALA
AND ITS DIVISION KNOWN AS RUSA IF YOU ARE APPOINTED TO SERVE ON A STARS
Committees slated for creation in 2005 include 1) Cooperative
Reference, 2) Research and Statistics, 3) Cooperative Collection Development,
and 4) Cooperative/Remote Circulation.
