Special funds are now available to groups of participants from the
South Pacific Islands and from islands of developing countries in the
subtropical zones. This special fund is provided by the Research Institute
of Subtropics, Okinawa Islands, Japan and to partially cover additional
costs of e.g. communication and copying during participation.
The purpose is to provide an opportunity to groups of participants (not
individuals) from islands to participate at the Internet conference on
Integrated Bio-Systems (April-Dec 1998;
http://home2.swipnet.se/~w-25860/icibs). The organizers of the Internet
Conference pre-suppose that many of practitioners and scientists work in
partial isolation where opportunities to interact with others
internationally are limited. This effort will permit such participants to
interact with others who share common interests in the use of integrated
bio-systems in agriculture, horticulture, aquaculture and industry,
wastewater treatment, and natural resource management. We encourage the
paticipation of farmers, researchers and public servants. There will be
about 25 papers for discussion between April and June and between Oct and
Dec.1998 (see http://home2.swipnet.se/~w-25860/icibs/prog.htm)
Potential leaders/co-ordinators of such groups are requested to contact the
ICIBS Secretariat ([log in to unmask]) and provide the following information.
(a) name and email/postal address of group leader/co-ordinator
(b) a list of the names of participants in your group, their affiliations,
fax and/or email addresses, and a few lines about what they do
The basic facilities needed for group participation are (a) an e-mail
address (b) copying machine (c) fax nr.
The tasks of each leader are
(a) to copy and provide conference materials, papers and discussion
messages to its group members
(b) to assist group members to send their email messages
(c) sometimes, it may be useful to gather your group over coffee to review
conference papers and messages .
