Stockholms Universitetsbibliotek har för avsikt att eventuellt stå
som co-ordinator för ett uppföljningsproject till SELF.

Förfrågan har kommit från Peter Brophy om vi vill koordinera det. Jag
har fått ett ofullständigt förslag till projektansökan och det är vår
uppgift på SUB att färdigställa den.

Project ideen är:

The SELF2 project addresses the needs of end-users of library services
to have access to effective interlibrary loan services and the needs
of library managers to operate such services in a highly efficient
manner. At present interlibrary loans services are staff intensive,
but the SELF Project (EC Telematics for Libraries Programme 1994-96)
demonstrated

 (a) that self-service is a feasible and attractive option
 (b) that interlibrary loans is a key area in which self-service can
 be demonstrated (c) that efficiency savings are potentially large (d)
 that Europe can take a world lead in this area (e) that open systems
 using accepted standards are achievable in this area.

Virtually all libraries across Europe utilise interlibrary loan and
the potential market for this application is therefore huge.
