The World Social Forum will convene in 2011 from 6 until 11 February in
Dakar, Senegal.  The Dakar Forum will be an opportunity to consolidate the
achievements of the African social movements and the forces of progress on
the continent and to compile a striking and visible record of their
struggles and alternative solutions in the global search for a just world. 

It is the intention of the central library of UCAD to participate in the
Forum with the explicit aim to examine the role of documentation in the
process of the activities of social movements and to preserve a memory of
the forum through a collection of different types of documents created by
the forum.  Like the social forum, the library itself is an open and
democratic space. 

During the WSF in Dakar, the community of Senegalese librarians will take
occasion to explore the methodology and practice of "Documentation as a
tool for social justice - La documentation comme outil pour la justice

 A series of meetings and workshops will be organized during the days of
the Dakar WSF at the Central library of UCAD by its staff. From Africa
there are the following partners involved:  national association for
Senegalese librarians, archivists and documentalists (ASBAD) , librarian teaching school (EBAD) , etc. Our European partners are, the
International Institute of Social History (IISH) ,
Amsterdam, the Netherlands and the Network Institute for Global
Democratization (NIGD) , Helsinki, Finland. 
Colleagues from African countries will be invited to participate in these
moments of exchange and collection of the memory of the Forum.
Goals - Objectifs : 

The general goal is to involve librarians, archivists and documentalists
in the Social Forum and in the documenting of the Social Forum. 

The specific goals are - Les objectifs spécifiques sont :

 â^È^Ò Facilitate the cooperation between librarians and social movements /
Faciliter la collaboration des communauté des bibliothécaires avec les
mouvement sociaux;

â^È^Ò Making the librarian conscious of their role in the process of the
social forum / Faciliter la prise de conscience du rôle des
bibliothèques dans le processus du Forum;

 â^È^Ò Collect, organise and preserve the documents which are procduced by
the Social Forum (the memory of the forum) / Collecter, organiser et
sauvegarder les documents produits lors du forum (la mémoire du Forum)

 â^È^Ò Improve the methodology ofFaire avancer la methodologie de :
   1) the selection and appraisal of documentation of the WSF 
   2) the strategies for keeping documentation of the WSF 
   3) the availability and use of documentation of social movements in
libraries and archives 
Target group - Public cible  
The target group consists of librarians and library science students in
Senegal and colleagues coming from the neigbouring West African countries,
and from other countries. 

Specific actions during the WSF in Dakar - Actions à mener durant le FSM
a Dakar : 

â^À¢ 5-6 February: Meetings at the library to organise the collecting of
documents and learn how to update with new information
â^À¢ 7 February: Collect documents on the African social movements during
the "Africa day" of the WSF
â^À¢ 8 February: International workshop on the methodology of
"documentation for social justice"
â^À¢ 9-10 February. Collecting documents about the activities of the WSF. 
â^À¢ 11 February.  Meeting to sum up what has been achieved.

Une équipe de volontaires et de bibliothècaires son en train de collecter
la mémoire du Forum. Afin de leur faciliter la tâche, nous vous prions
d'apporter les documents , fichiers , photos, prospectus etc des activités
du FSM dans les boîtes à l'entrée de la Biblioth`que centrale ("Dépot" à
coté du Kiosque). Vous pouvez également envoyer vos notes et documents à
[log in to unmask]  et/ou utiliser le wiki

A team of librarians and volunteers is collecting information about the
activities of the WSF. In order to assist them please bring papers, files,
photos, leaflets etc from the WSF's activities to the boxes at the
entrance of the central library ("Deposit" near the kiosk). You may also
post your notes and papers to [log in to unmask] and/or use the wiki
