We would like to draw your attention to the fifth edition of the course "Electronic Resources and Electronic Publishing", to be held from 10 till 13 August 2004 in Tilburg, the Netherlands. The course aims to support university and research libraries in the current transitional phase and to identify new roles and opportunities for them. It is also highly relevant for publishers.

Target group Library managers/directors, IT or systems librarians, licensing officers, and digital library project managers from academic and research libraries, publishers. Participants will rapidly be able to apply the acquired skills to their own organisation, as they will learn - by means of case studies and the associated practical approach - to deal with the problems and challenges that different organisations face.
Subjects Changes in the information chain and trends in e-publishing; library consortia: success, realism, myths and second thoughts; IT trends and developments; changing views on copyright issues; licensing options; new roles of publishers on the Internet; the art of negotiating; electronic preprints: the Open Archives Initiative; document servers in support of education and research; open access in practice.
Course director Hans Geleijnse, CIO, Director of IT Services and University Librarian, Tilburg University, NL, is responsible for strategic policy development and coordination in the field of the university's information and computerization policy. Hans has been heavily involved in library consortia, digital library and electronic publishing initiatives.
