This mesage is sent to a number of Nordic listservs - please excuse any

Dear colleagues,

I have more than once received questions from ILL librarians in the
Nordic and Baltic countries who want to know if can be used
to locate books, journals and other materials held in Danish libraries.
The answer to this is yes, you may use for this purpose. No
password or user ID is needed and searching is free of charge.
I have put together a step by step guide which might come handy for
those of you who do not have access to DanBib (the Danish national union
catalogue) but maybe need to request from Danish libraries from time to

As is a tool for end users and not intended for
professionals it is a good deal more complicated to use if you compare
it to
other systems with a request facility - but it will at least allow you
to locate books and journals to Danish libraries. You must go through
the following steps:

1. Go to:

2. Choose English language search screen if you wish

3. Perform your search

4. When you have found the material you are looking for then click the
"Order the above" button. You may want to make a printout of the record
before clicking the order button.

5. You have now reached stage 1 of the ordering process and you will
have to imagine that you are an end user who is now selecting a pick up
library. You will have to select a library to reach the point where
holding information is made available to the end user who would like
to have this information. You may select any Danish library to enable
you to proceed - please feel free to type DPB in the "Free text" field
and then click the "Find library" button.

6. You have now reached step 2 of the ordering process. Click the
"Select library" button.

7. You have now reached step 3 of the ordering process where you will
find a clickable text saying: "See which libraries have the material".
When clicking a frame with holding information will open. You will
now know which Danish libraries hold the material and you can send the
printout of the record you made earlier to one of those libraries as you
wish by mail or fax. If the library accepts requesting by e-mail you may
cut and paste the record into your messaging system.
Addresses, faxnumbers and e-mail addresses are found in the Library
directory of and also in the NVBF publication Nordic ILL Facts (together
will lending policies etc.)

I hope this can be usefull for you but please bear in mind that
earlier mentioned is not developed for library professionals but for end
users. If you often request from Danish libraries then DanBib would be
the best choice for you.

Kind regards,

Poul Erlandsen
