NORDINFO's 25th Anniversary
NORDINFO celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a Nordic Forum for Information Policy under the powerful theme "Content is King". The forum was held in Espoo, Finland with participants from all the Nordic countries, Estonia, USA and Canada.
The international speakers included the president of IFLA, Mme Christine Deschamps; Mr. Bernhard Smith, Head of Unit, Cultural Heritage Applications, The European Commission; Mrs. Joanne Curry, Chief Execute Officer, TeleLearning Solutions, Canada and Mrs. Patricia Senn Breivik, Chair, National Forum on Information Literacy, Califonia, USA.
The Nordic Forum for Information Policy emphasised three important topics:
Information Policy for the Knowledge Society The Virtual University Citizens Right to Information
The papers will be published in NORDINFO-Nytt 2001:4.
New Nordic Initiative on Information Literacy
In connection with the conference, a new brainstorming group with participants from all the Nordic countries was invited by NORDINFO to discuss ideas for Nordic initiatives within the area of Information Literacy. The group have named themselves the NORDINFOLIT Group. The outcome of this brainstorming session was very promising. Several projects were discussed and the NORDINFOLIT Group decided to seek funds from NORDINFO to organise a Nordic Summer School in 2002 on Information Literacy hosted by the Royal School of Library and Information Science in Copenhagen.
