CALL FOR PAPERS
Michigan Academy of Science, Arts, and Letters
1998 Annual Meeting - Alma College, February 27 and 28
Environmental Sciences & Ecology Section

The 1998 Annual Meeting of the Michigan Academy of Science, Arts, and
Letters will be held February 27-28 at Alma College in Alma, Michigan.  You
and your colleagues are invited to submit an abstract of a paper that you
would like to have considered for presentation during a session of the
Environmental Sciences & Ecology Section at the 1998 Annual Meeting.  Papers
will be included in the program on the basis of originality and general
interest to persons in the comprehensive field of Environmental Sciences &
Ecology.  Two copies of each abstract must be sent to the section chair by
October 30, 1997.  See instructions for abstract preparation.   Presentation
time for -papers is generally 20 minutes.  Authors of papers accepted for
presentation will be notified by the Academy office in December, and
registration materials will be sent at that time. Membership in the Academy
is not required, but in order for a paper to be included in the program, the
presenter must be registered for the meetings by January 19.

PANELS, SEMINARS, AND SYMPOSIA: Proposals for panels, seminars, and symposia
may be addressed to differing points of view, timely issues, research
interests, etc.  Proposals should contain the topical title, an abstract of
the points of view, issues to be addressed, procedural formal, and the
names, titles, professional affiliations of the proposed participants,
complete mailing address, and phone number of the leader.  All participants
must be registered in advance.

POSTER SESSIONS: Poster sessions designed for the display of graphical
materials, charts, printouts, etc., associated with research papers are
invited to be held concurrently with section meetings.  An abstract of
proposed poster topic should be submitted directly to the section chair and
identified as a poster presentation.  Poster sessions will be listed in the
printed program with section programs.  Participants must register in advance.

PUBLICATION:    Papers presented at the Annual Meeting are invited to be
considered for publication in the Michigan Academician, the quarterly,
multidisciplinary journal of this society.  After presenting a paper at the
meeting, send manuscript to the Academy office by April 30, 1998.  Papers
undergo peer review.  See journal or contact the Academy office for style
guidelines.

MEMBERSHIP:     Annual dues for 1997-98 are $50 for members affiliated with an
Academy member organization; for unaffiliated members, dues are $65.
Membership dues for students and retirees are $30 if affiliated with an
Academy member organization, $40 if not affiliated with a member school.
Membership includes subscriptions to Volume XXX of the Michigan Academician
and the Academy Letter.  Members receive a substantial discount on
registration fees for the meetings.  Dues should be sent to Philip L.
