Using Market Research to Improve Customer Satisfaction: IFLA Pre-conference
Seminar: Thursday 15 August - Friday 16 August 2002: Glasgow, Scotland.
Website and registration:
The IFLA Section on Management and Marketing is running a two day seminar in
Glasgow the week before the IFLA general conference. This seminar will be
limited to about 35 participants. It will explore how market research data
can be used to improve your knowledge about your customers, and thus improve
the effectiveness of your library and information services. Delegates should
already have some knowledge of marketing. The seminar goal is to learn how
you can use market research techniques and methods to investigate your
market's characteristics, behaviour, attitudes, wants and needs in order to
improve the quality and effectiveness of your service. Seminar leaders are
Dr Christine Koontz (Director, GeoLib Florida Resources and Environmental
Analysis Center, Florida State University, USA) and Sheila Webber
(University of Sheffield, UK). There will also be contributions from
practitioners from a variety of countries and sectors. On the first day
there will be short lecture sessions, case studies and associated practical
exercises. On the second day there will be increasing emphasis on practical
work in small groups. We will ask you to bring along marketing problem you
want to solve in your library or information centre. The working language
will be English. There will be a small charge to cover cost of reproducing
documentation and lunches on both days (probably about 15 pounds sterling
(or 25 Euros). This sum will be collected at the seminar.
